What BeenVerified Collects About You

BeenVerified is a background check service that aggregates public records, social media, and other data sources. A typical profile includes:

  • Full name and known aliases
  • Current and past addresses
  • Phone numbers and email addresses
  • Relatives and associates
  • Criminal records and court filings
  • Social media profiles
  • Age and date of birth
  • Property ownership records

Good News

BeenVerified is one of the few data brokers that actually honors opt-out requests reliably. They also own PeopleLooker, so opting out of BeenVerified may also remove your data from that site.

Step-by-Step Removal Process

Step 1: Search for Your Listing

Go to beenverified.com/opt-out. BeenVerified's opt-out page lets you search directly for your listing — you don't need to search on the main site first.

Step 2: Find Your Record

Enter your first name, last name, and state. Click "Search". You may have multiple listings if you've lived in different locations or have common name variations.

Step 3: Select Your Listing

Review the search results and find the listing(s) that match you. Click the "Select & Continue" button next to each listing you want removed.

Step 4: Provide Email for Verification

Enter an email address to receive the confirmation link. Use a dedicated privacy email if possible — avoid giving your primary email to data brokers.

Step 5: Verify via Email

Check your email and click the verification link. This step is critical — your request won't be processed until you click the link. Check spam/junk folders if you don't see it within a few minutes.

Step 6: Wait for Removal

BeenVerified typically removes listings within 24 hours. Some users report seeing removal in as little as a few hours.

After You Submit

  • Wait 24 hours for removal to process
  • Verify removal by searching for yourself on BeenVerified's main site
  • Document it — use our Opt-Out Tracker to record the date and monitor for reappearance

If Your Data Comes Back

BeenVerified continuously updates its database from public records. Your data can reappear after weeks or months. If it does:

  1. Submit a new opt-out request (same process as above)
  2. Check if new public records have been filed — court cases, property purchases, voter registration all add new data
  3. If you're in California, file a complaint with the CPPA under the CCPA
  4. Consider using your state's privacy laws — check our State Rights Lookup

Pro Tip: Also Check PeopleLooker

BeenVerified owns PeopleLooker. Opting out of BeenVerified may also remove you from PeopleLooker, but it's worth checking both sites to be sure. You can verify removal by searching on both.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is removing my data from BeenVerified really free?

Yes. BeenVerified's opt-out process is completely free. You don't need to create an account, provide payment information, or subscribe to anything. If any service asks for payment to remove you from BeenVerified, it's a scam.

Will removing my data from BeenVerified also remove it from other sites?

Opting out of BeenVerified may also remove you from PeopleLooker (owned by the same company), but it won't affect other data brokers like Spokeo, Whitepages, or Intelius. You'll need to opt out of each broker separately — see our complete data broker opt-out guide.

How long does BeenVerified keep my data after I opt out?

BeenVerified removes your listing from search results within 24 hours and should not retain it after that. However, new data from public records can cause your profile to reappear at any time.

Can I opt out on behalf of someone else?

Yes. BeenVerified's opt-out form is self-service — anyone can submit a removal request for any listing. There's no identity verification beyond email confirmation. You can submit requests for family members, but they should use their own email for the confirmation.
